The All India Majlis e-Ittehadul Muslimeen has decided to support the Janata Dal (Secular) in the Karnataka Assembly elections scheduled next month. The decision according to AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi was taken after due consideration and consultations.
Mr Owaisi said, “All our efforts and endeavour would be to ensure that the JD(S) gets the maximum number of seats. (HD) Kumaraswamy should become the Chief Minister and the party led by Deve Gowda should be ruling Karnataka.”
Mr Kumaraswamy is the son of Deve Gowda and is the president of Karnata-ka unit of the JD(S).
According to Mr Owaisi, the party feels that both national parties, the BJP and the Congress, have failed to live up to the expectations and hopes of the people of Karnataka and that’s why they have decided to support the JD(S) completely. “We will not be putting up our candidates.
We will go out and address public meetings to garner
support for the JD(S) in the upcoming elections. I hope people of Karnataka would once again repose faith in the JD(S) so that qualitative change can be brought in Karnataka,” he said.
He further went on to say, “It’s in the interest of Karnataka and in the interest of the nation that a non-Congress and non-BJP government comes to power both in Karnataka and subsequently whenever the parliamentary elections are held.”
Mr Owaisi said he has already spoken to Mr Kumaraswamy and assu-red him about his party’s support to the JD(S).
Mr Kumaraswamy, who responded to the offer of the AIMIM chief, took it to Twitter and said, “We are grateful to you for extending your support to JD(S). Yes indeed, both the national parties have failed to represent the real cause of people. Karnataka will be a starting point to give a new political alternative to the nation.”
