AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi on Monday said that his party had no objection even if the government demolishes the heritage building of the Osmania General Hospital for the construction of new buildings and developing structures.
Owaisi was speaking after visiting the hospital along with party MLAs, MLCs and corporators. He demanded that the TRS government construct a new building for the OGH at an estimated cost of Rs.1,000 crore.
Owaisi said there should not be more delay in fulfilling the promise of constructing a new building and developing infrastructure under the prevarication of the heritage building in the premises. We will not compromise on the name of the hospital, he said.
We are not concerned with the heritage building. It is for the government to decide what they want to do. We are concerned for human life. We want the Chief Minister to save human life and save Osmania Medical College and Osmania General Hospital and that can only be
saved if a new building is constructed.
We know very well that the old building is not in use because it is in a dilapidated condition. It is a known fact that there is a need for the new outpatient block, a new inpatient an emergency block and nursing training block and hostel, which existed earlier and are now closed.
Owaisi observed that during the first and second wave of Covid people had to face trouble. Every year before the closure of the old building 90,000-odd surgeries are performed, now it has been reduced in 44,000,
He said Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has announced that he will be developing three hospitals and a medical college around Hyderabad. The decision has come as a shock to us. The Chief Minister agreed to build a medical college, but the premier medical institute, Osmania Medical College and Hospitals, which has historically been in the service of the poor is neglected, he said.
