President of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), Asaduddin Owaisi, took oath on Tuesday as a Member of Parliament amid chants of 'Jai Shri Ram'.
Owaisi was also greeted with the slogans of 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai' and 'Vande Mataram' when he was called to take oath as a Lok Sabha MP.
Owaisi immediately gave it back and said, "Jai Bheem, Jai Meem, Takbeer Allahu Akbar, Jai Hind."
Reacting over the "Jai Shri Ram" and "Vande Mataram" slogans being raised in Lok Sabha while he was taking oath as MP, Asaduddin Owaisi said, "It is good that they remember such things when they see me, I hope they will also remember the constitution and deaths of children in Muzaffarpur."
On the first day of the 17th Lok
Sabha, Union minister of state for environment and forest Babul Supriyo took oath as Lok Sabha MP. Bharatiya Janata Party members loudly cheered with "Jai Shri Ram".
The chant of Jai Shri Ram was a jibe at West Bengal's ruling party Trinamool Congress and state Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee who has been embroiled in a bitter battle with the BJP over who will take control of the political landscape of West Bengal.
Previously, Mamata Banerjee had allegedly objected to uttering of the slogan Jai Shri Ram during multiple incidents.
An Independent MP from Amravati, Navneet Rana, reacted to the incident and said, "This is not the right place, temples are there for it. All gods are the same but targeting someone and taking that name, it's wrong."
