Kanpur: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen president Asaduddin Owaisi on Sunday raked up the 1992 Babri Masjid demolition incident during his speech at a Kanpur rally in Uttar Pradesh, a state that has stood witness to the horrors of the incident and its aftermath for decades.

Addressing an AIMIM gathering in poll-bound Uttar Pradesh, Owaisi slammed the Samajwadi Party (SP), the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and the Congress for “turning a blind eye when Babri masjid was demolished”.

“My masjid (Babri) was martyred. People who tarnished it disrupted the foundation of India and the rule of law... Did anyone from SP, BSP or Congress say anything? They turned a blind eye as it was my masjid being tarnished, not theirs,” the AIMIM chief said in Kanpur.

Owaisi claimed that his party would contest on 100 seats in the 2022 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections

and that the AIMIM is open to forming an alliance.

“After Babri Masjid verdict said there was no criminal, I asked in Parliament why the CBI didn’t appeal and who tarnished the Masjid? Did anyone from SP, BSP, or Congress say anything? No,” the Hyderabad MP claimed.

He also took direct potshots at the Yadav family of SP and also did not spare Mayawati.

“The Yadavs formed Mulayam Singh and Akhilesh’s government. Dalits made Mayawati the chief minister. Thakurs and Brahmins have formed the current BJP government in Uttar Pradesh. It will no more be decided by touts where Muslims will cast their votes. I tell the Muslims of Uttar Pradesh that they do not need to be afraid and if the Muslims of Uttar Pradesh want to move forward, then no one will be able to stop them,” he said at the rally.
