All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul Muslimeen (AIMIM) president Asaduddin Owaisi sparked a fresh controversy on Thursday after he mocked India’s highest civilian honour, the Bharat Ratna, while delivering his speech in Parliament. “I have a problem with these people (the government) and I am complaining to you Madam speaker. Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay who, as per the Chandrachud Commission report, had been accused of perjury, these people went ahead and gave him the Bharat Ratna. I condemn this act. Bharat Ratna has become an exclusive club of Brahmins and the upper caste,” said
Owaisi.
He also took jibes at PM Narendra Modi and said that his cabinet had betrayed the oath of allegiance to the Constitution. “The day the PM, in December 2017, asked whether you want a mandir or a masjid, he betrayed this oath. Because he cannot side with one religion or the other,” said Owaisi.Earlier, referring to Modi’s recent photograph of waving from a house boat on Jammu & Kashmir’s Dal Lake, the AIMIM chief said that it was because of him that the “jawans in Kashmir have picked up weapons”.
