New Delhi: AIMIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi informed the Lok Sabha that the Cofset syrup, which contains Diethylene Gylcol (DEG) and is manufactured with digital vision, had failed to qualify quality standards.
Janab Asaduddin Owaisi Tweets 'Raised the issue of children dying after taking cough syrups manufactured by “Digital Vision” company.
Controversially, drug regulators have been asked to not prosecute every case of substandard drugs. These guidelines should be withdrawn
immediately'
“Many children are consuming this cough syrup and dying, and there is no control by the government on the sale of such sub-standard drugs,” Owaisi said.
Owaisi demanded that the Drugs Consideration Committee’s statement that prosecuting every case of substandard drugs would lead to harassment of manufacturers be withdrawn.
He added that the Union government should ensure strict implementation of good practices under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act.
