Owaisi blasts BJP on NRC

Mon 02 Sep 2019, 12:12:12
All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) president Asaduddin Owaisi on Saturday declared that the “myth floated by the BJP over illegal immigrants from Bangladesh in Assam has been busted” and called on the ruling party to realise its folly, and put an end to its attempts to wantonly target a section of people. Owaisi also flayed the BJP government for mishandling of the economy that saw the country’s GDP fall to five per cent from 5.9 per cent.

Owaisi said Union Home Minister Amit Shah and others in BJP had a lot of explaining to do on the National Registry of Citizens which came up with a list of 19 lakh illegal immigrants in Assam. “Even from these, three lakh are yet to submit documents and others have 120 days to appeal. This number will fall further. What does Amit Shah who called illegal immigrants ‘termites’ and said Assam had 50 lakh of them, has to say now?” Owaisi

asked.

The BJP leaders now do not know what to do. Even its leaders in Assam are now unwilling to accept the NRC results,” he said.

“BJP should immediately end the want on targeting of people and put an end to talks about NRCs in all other States. Has Government of India discussed with Bangladesh what it wants to do with the identified illegal immigrants?” Owaisi said.

On downturn of the country’s economy, Owaisi said it was time for those who voted for BJP in the last Lok Sabha elections, to ask themselves about the current situation.

“Where have all those who shouted ‘Har Har Modi’ slogans disappeared? Factories are laying off people, cutting down production. Rural economy is already in tatters and there is a demand crisis for work. Why is the BJP silent on this?” he asked.
