Hyderabad: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi on Monday demanded that BJP former national spokesperson Nupur Sharma and its Delhi media cell head Navin Kumar Jindal should be arrested and sent to jail for making controversial remarks about Prophet Muhammad.
“While the Muslims are booked under National Security Act in connection with violence in Kanpur, the people who cause embarrassment to the country by making anti-Islamic remarks are just suspended,” he said
The AIMIM chief found fault with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP leadership for not taking any action against Nupur for 10 days despite repeated demands by him and other Indian citizens, but hurriedly suspended the two due to backlash from the Gulf countries.
“Is Asaduddin Owaisi lesser than the powers that be in the Gulf that Modi and BJP
reacted to only after the protest from the latter?” he asked.
India may have to face economic backlash and Modi should be held responsible for it. Nupur Sharma’s remarks on Prophet Muhammad triggered outrage in Gulf nations and left India in an embarrassing position, he said.
Taking a jibe at the external affairs ministry, Owaisi sought to ask whether the foreign ministry has become a part of the BJP. “India has lost face. The country’s foreign policy has been destroyed by the Modi-led BJP government.
The fringe has become mainstream. I demand her arrest, and her suspension is a sham,” Owaisi said. “What will you do if there are hate crimes and violence against Indian nationals in Gulf countries? The BJP deliberately sends its leaders to spread hatred against Muslims on national TV,” he alleged.
