All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen chief and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi strongly opposed the Delhi Services Bill in the Lok Sabha on Thursday.
Speaking in the House,Owaisi said, "I oppose this unconstitutional bill, which violates federalism, which is part of the basic structure of our Constitution. This is completely wrong. Moreover, I am warning all regional parties that the day is not far when Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad and Mumbai can become union territories and face this situation."
Owaisi stated that Delhi Services Bill violated Article 123 of the Constitution. "In 2017, the Supreme Court ruled that repeated re-promulgations without legislative consideration would be
unconstitutional and a violation of the legislature's role. The court emphasised that the power to issue an Ordinance should be treated as an emergency measure and not as a means to bypass the legislature. But the Centre violated the Supreme Court orders in bringing Delhi Services Ordinance."
After Lok Sabha passed the Delhi Service Bill, Owaisi, speaking to media personnel said, "They have a brute majority. We had beforehand that this is an unconstitutional Bill. This Bill is against India's basic structure. Supreme Court had ruled against it earlier. I believe that when this goes to the Supreme Court, the Court will see this...Every party has their own strategy. We sat there and opposed the Bill."
