AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi in his first reaction on violence that erupted in several states after Friday prayers said the government should ensure that it should not happen adding at many places the protests were peacefull. Owaisi demanded the arrest of suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma saying action against her was delayed.

Owaisi said, "At some places, protests were peaceful, while there was violence at many places... it shouldn't have happened. No one should indulge in violence.. nor should the police take law in their hands as two people died in yesterday's firing by the cops in Ranchi."

There shouldn't be any violence... it's very important for the democracy but its government's responsibility to not let it happen, Owaisi added.

Speaking on action being taken against rioters in Uttar Pradesh, Owaisi said, "who are you

(the govt) to destroy someone's home... it's the court's job to decide the punishment... are you the chief justice or the court... what's the need of a judge if you are only going to decide everything."

Owaisi further said that Nupur Sharma has not been arrested, she should be arrested according to the law of this country.

"Why she has not been arrested for so many days... action against her should be taken as per the law...," he said.

"If BJP is thinking that her suspension will sort the matter then it's not going too... our demand is that she should be arrested," Owaisi added.

On Friday, two people were killed and many including security personnel were critically injured as violent protests rocked Ranchi over the comments made by two suspended BJP spokespersons on Prophet Mohammad, officials said on Saturday.
