The Government yesterday claimed that about 95.3 per cent of cane dues in the current sugar season 2023-24 of sugarcane farmers have been cleared till last month. In a written reply in the Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Mrs. Nimuben Jayantibhai Bambhaniya said the Centre has taken various measures for the payment of outstanding dues to the sugarcane
farmers.
She said nearly 99.9 per cent of cane dues up to sugar seasons (Oct-Sept) 2021-22 have been cleared. For the previous sugar season 2022-23, more than 99.6 per cent of cane dues have been cleared. The Minister said the payment of cane by sugar mills to the farmers is being made on a regular basis resulting in the reduction of cane dues.
