A Dubai-bound Air India flight from Calicut with 62 passengers on board had to make an emergency landing at the Mumbai airport after burning smell was detected in the cockpit, according to ANI. However, no smoke was observed when the airport officials checked it after landing. Soon after an alarm was raised, the flight was immediately diverted at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport at around 12:50 pm, an airport official told PTI.
The plane had made a safe landing and no
injuries have been reported so far. Speaking about the incident, the official further said, the commander of the flight AI-937 operating on Calicut-Dubai route sought priority landing from the Mumbai air traffic control after there was a burning smell in the cockpit though no smoke was detected.
The Airbus A321 aircraft was then grounded and a team of Air India engineering department immediately went ahead with its inspection. Air India spokesperson was not available for comments.
