Apple Opens Its First App Accelerator In Bengaluru

A year after it was formally announced by CEO Tim Cook, Apple has opened up its first App accelerator in Bengaluru, the first of its kind anywhere in the world. The facility will provide support for budding developers — from guidance on design to tools and quality management.

Every week an expert will be taking a session on various topics along with one-on-one sessions with the developers. The creators can register on the website to see the schedule for the session and book themselves a slot.

Apple is looking to provide app support and advice for iOS apps on iPhone and iPad, WatchOS apps for Apple Watch, TVOS apps for Apple TV platform and more.

Cook had announced the accelerator in Bengaluru along with a map development center in



Hyderabad.

"We are impressed by the great entrepreneurial spirit in India, and are excited to provide a platform for these developers to share their innovations with customers around the world," said Philip Schiller, senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. "In just the first few weeks, we've already seen some incredible developers here at the App Accelerator Bengaluru, including Practo and Reliance Games, create innovative apps that can meet the needs of customers in India and around the world."

Apple aims to address 500 developers every week in the centre, providing feedback and app analysis. The company is surely looking beyond just hardware production in India. It wants to build a holistic ecosystem, leveraging the software talent in the country.
