Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has launched a Special GST Refund Disposal Drive from 15th May to 31st May for processing and disposal of all pending GST refund claims on priority.
In a statement, CBIC said that it is expected that all Central Tax formations will take up all the pending GST refund claims for processing and endeavour to dispose them much earlier than the statutory time limits, preferably before a period of 30 days from the date of receipt of the refund application.
It is expected that during this special drive, all GST refund claims, pending as on 14th May shall be disposed of by 31st of this month.
Principal Chief Commissioners and Chief Commissioners of CGST Zones will monitor the performance on this front
closely on a daily basis and, wherever required, suitably guide the officers concerned to maximize the disposal.
The Ministry said, while processing of the pending refund claims need to be done on priority in a time bound manner, the refunds should be disposed of after due diligence as per existing legal provisions.
It said, in cases, where timelines have been provided or extended for reply to the notice or for providing requisite documents the decision in respect of the refund order may be taken after the receipt of reply or documents from the taxpayers.
It said, all communication with taxpayers must be done through the GST portal, or if need be, through email using the official email ID of the officer.
