The coal production in the country has shot up to over 664 million tonnes during the current financial year which is a robust 12.29 percent increase over the corresponding figure of over 591 million tonnes for the same period of the previous year. Coal Ministry yesterday, said that in terms of coal dispatch, the cumulative achievement during this period amounted to over 692 million tonnes, indicating 11.32 percent growth compared to the corresponding period of the previous year at over 622 million tonnes.
This increase ensures a consistent and robust coal supply to meet the energy needs of the power sector. The overall coal dispatch to the power sector from April 2023 to 25th December 2023 increased
by 8.39 percent, reaching over 577 million tonnes.
The Ministry of Coal assured that an ample coal supply to meet the growing energy demand in the country. Efficient coal supply to Thermal Power Plants has resulted in robust coal stock levels at various pitheads, highlighting the effectiveness of the coal supply chain in ensuring seamless distribution nationwide.
The Ministry said, this higher coal stock position reflects its commitment to maintain an ample coal supply and underscores effective stock management strategies and operational efficiency and consistent coal supply to meet the energy needs of the power sector.
