Commerce Secretary Rita Teaotia chaired the first meeting of the task force on e-commerce in New Delhi yesterday.

The task force has been set up to recommend a framework for comprehensive national policy on e-commerce.

The meeting was held to take inputs for the proposed policy framework for the sector from other Ministries and Departments, including finance, information technology and telecom and consumer affairs.

The meeting deliberated upon the suggestions emerging from the sub-group meetings held

last month. The discussion was held on wide-ranging issues such as cross-border data flows, taxation, trade facilitation, logistics, FDI and competition issues.

The government had in April begun the exercise to frame a national policy on e-commerce. A think-tank was constituted on the issue under the chairmanship of Commerce and Industry Minister Suresh Prabhu.

The task force was further divided into nine sub-groups for preparing recommendations for country's national policy on e-commerce.
