Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw said that the construction work for Tata’s semiconductor unit at Morigaon in Assam has begun on Saturday. Sharing more details about the plant with media in New Delhi, Mr Vaishnaw said that this unit will be set up with an investment of 27,000 crore rupees and will generate 15 thousand direct and 11 to 13 thousand indirect jobs. The Union Minister that it will be a very big semiconductor



plant and four crore 83 lakh semiconductor chips per day. He added that the chips to be manufactured in this plant will be used in e-vehicle and the communication and network infrastructure.

The Union Minister informed that On 29th February this year, the Union cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi had approved the proposal for Tata’s semiconductor unit in Morigaon, Assam.
