Famous city restaurant chain Paradise and major retailer D-Mart have been convicted by the District Consumer Dispute Relief Commission to illegally charge citizens of the city for carry bags. The proceedings were filed on July 1, 2019 by Vijay Gopal, Chairman of the Anti-Corruption Forum. DMART was charging customers 3.5 rupees while Paradise was charging 4.76 rupees per bag. Order. The punishment of both facilities for illegal activities was passed on August 11.
The Commission has entrusted
both businesses to deposit a total of 50,000 rupees with the Consumer Welfare Fund and submit a receipt for their payments for violating the 2016 and 2018 Plastic Waste (Management and Handling) Regulations. I requested. Both outlets were also asked by the court to stop asking customers to pay for carry bags and offer the same to all customers.
The court also instructed plaintiff Gopal to pay 3,000 rupees for “suffering pain” and 1,000 rupees for legal costs. The compliance period is 40 days and if a company fails to comply with a court order, it is obliged to pay 12% interest of Rs 50,000 and Rs 3,000 from the date of complaint to the date of realization.
