New Delhi: Union Government has said that surprise inspections are underway in selected districts of eight states to check stocks of Edible Oils and Oilseeds. Eight Central Teams have been deputed by the government since 30th of April this year for strict compliance and enforcement of the Central Order to enforce the Stock Limit Orders. These states are Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Telangana, Gujarat, West Bengal, and Delhi.

Consumer Affairs Ministry said, strict action will be initiated against the entities if found to be violating the

orders. It said, at present, the domestic production of edible oils is unable to meet the country's domestic demand. The country has to rely on large-scale imports to meet the gap between demand and supply. Around 56 percent of the edible oils segment consumed in the country is met through imports.

The Ministry said, all States and Union Territories have been brought under a single Central Order of 30th March this year, which extends stock limits for Edible Oils and Oilseeds upto 31st of December this year.
