As the GST Council reaches closer to fixing tax rates for textiles, the Textile Ministry has hoped it will take care of the interests of the industry which has just started looking up and employs a large number of people only next to agriculture.
“It is the right and privilege of the GST Council to take a decision on rates. I hope they will take into cognizance all concerns,” Textile Minister Smriti Irani told reporters here to a specific query on
GST.
While the GST Council has fixed levies for most of the goods and services under the proposed GST regime, a call on some of them is still awaited.Prominent amongst the goods on which the decision is pending to be taken on June 3 is gold and other precious metals, textiles and beedi.
The council was unable to take a decision on textiles in its Srinagar meeting this weekend. Many a textile trader are demanding a fibre-neutral taxation regime for textiles.
