Chennai: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said, the Centre has cleared the GST dues to the states up to January this year.

Addressing the anniversary event of the political magazine Tuglak in Chennai last evening, she said, the remaining two months due worth 78 thousand crore rupees for the last financial year would be disbursed soon. She said when the GST collection in 2020 fell behind the expected level, 1.1 lakh crore rupees has been borrowed to give to the states, and 1.5 lakh crore rupees has been given for the next

year.

While responding to queries from the audience on bringing fuels under the GST regime, Ms. Sitharaman said it can happen when the state finance ministers agree to it.

She said under the Narendra Modi Government, the nation has made strides despite the challenges of the Covid pandemic and the ongoing Ukraine crisis.

To a question, the minister said the Congress is hobnobbing with the left fringe groups that intend to harm the interests of the nation.
