India exported 10,85,378 Metric Tonnes of sea food valued at rupees 35,916.60 crores during the first ten months of the last financial year. It registered a growth of 13.68 per cent in quantity and 10.11 per cent in value, according to Marine Products Export Development Authority, Kochi.
In dollar terms , exports were pegged at US dollar 5.64 billion as compared to 4.98 billion dollars during the same period
in the previous fiscal year marking 13.27 growth. Frozen Shrimp continued as the top export item of Marine products basket, with a share of 42.05 per cent in quantity and 69.95 per cent of the total earnings in dollar terms. USA , South East Asia and European Union continued to be the three major importers while the demand from Japan registered substantial increase during the period.
