Japan has expressed keen interest in joining India's Unified Payments Interface (UPI) system. In an interview with a media channel, Japanese Digital Minister Kono Taro highlighted the ongoing digital cooperation between the two countries. 

He said, this move aims to enhance interoperability and mutual recognition of e-IDs.

Mr Taro's statement, Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw expressed gratitude for the recognition of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Digital India vision.

Mr Vaishnaw added that the vision has gained traction globally and the people understood how it has democratised digital technology.
