Jawa launches 3 new bike models, prices start from Rs 1.55 lakh

The iconic Jawa bike is back. 

The Jawa brand, two years after its rights were acquired by The Classic Legends, have launched three new motorcycles. The three bikes - Jawa, Jawa Forty-Two and the factory bobber custom, Jawa Perak- were presented at the event in Mumbai on Thursday. 

The new Jawa bike has been priced at Rs 1.64 lakh while the Jawa Forty Two has been priced at Rs 1.55 lakh (all prices are ex-showroom, Delhi). While the Jawa and the Jawa Forty Two will go on sale first, the Perak is scheduled for production at a later date and has been priced at Rs 1.89 lakh. 

The Jawa takes design inspiration from the Jawa 250 Type A, which was the brand’s first motorcycle to go on sale in India in the 1960s. The distinctive headlight profile, dual-tone chrome finish on the fuel tank, flat saddle, a concealed conventional telescopic fork, twin peashooter pipes and the flared mudguards with pinstripes are reminiscent of the Jawa 250. Jawa designers also ensured that the new engine imitates the older motor visually as well.

The Jawa Type Forty Two has a more urban and modern theme with matte black elements replacing chrome and matte paint



shades. The Jawa Perak is a factory custom and has bobber styling.

Both Jawa and Jawa Forty Two share most of the specifications. Powered by a 293cc, single-cylinder, liquid cooled, DOHC engine that produces 27 BHP and 28 Nm. This engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox and gets a twin exhaust.

The bikes are underpinned by a double cradle chassis. They get telescopic hydraulic forks at the front and twin hydraulic shock absorbers at the rear. The Jawa bikes get 280 mm front disc with floating caliper and ABS while the rear gets 153 mm drum brake.

The front tyre is a 90/90/18 while the rear is a 120/80/17. Seat height is 765 mm while the wheelbase is 1369 mm. The bikes weigh 170 kg and have 14-litre fuel tank capacity.

The Jawa will be offered in black, maroon and grey. The Jawa Forty Two will be available in six shades, three matte colour and three metallic options.

Bookings for the Jawa bikes have commenced online and deliveries of the first lot are expected by early 2019.

Classic Legends was formed by Anand Mahindra, Anupam Thareja and Boman Irani, and Mahindra holds a 60 percent stake in this venture.
