Chennai: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitaraman yesterday laid the foundation for a nine-story new office complex Vaigai to be built at a cost of Rs. 92 Crore at the Custom House in Chennai. Speaking at the function, she said that in order to facilitate India's commitment to improving trade, export and import, the office complex will be housing all the necessary offices required for customs clearances in one place.
The building will be unique in nature and will be a template for the construction of other
offices in the future in any part of the Country.
Ms. Sitaraman also informed that a creche will be opened for the benefit of the women employees and the building will be energy efficient. The Minister appreciated the officials for taking inspiration from Prime Minister's Swachch Bharat initiative in maintaining the office complex clean and tidy.
The Finance Minister also planted a sapling as a mark of the construction of an eco-friendly environment.
