Godrej Consumer Products executive director Nisaba Godrej, 39, has replaced father Adi Godrej as executive chairman, the company has announced.
Adi Godrej, 75, will stay with the company as chairman emeritus. The move is part of larger succession planning effort at the company, according to a company statement. Godrej Consumer Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Vivek Gambhir will report to Nisaba, who joined the company in 2007.
Nisaba, the younger daughter of Adi Godrej, has been closely involved with steering a number of innovation initiatives at the Godrej Consumer Products along with
overseeing strategy.
Godrej Consumer Products is the flagship company of the parent Godrej Group, which is still chaired by Adi Godrej. Its brands include Cinthol, HIT, and GoodKnight.
In a similar move earlier this year, Adi Godrej appointed his son Pirojsha Godrej, 35, as chairman of Godrej Properties. Meanwhile, his eldest daughter Tanya Dubash, 48, remains the executive director at Godrej Industries and the chief brand officer of Godrej Group.
While Nisaba's elevation was widely expected the timing of her appointment was still a surprise, Mint reported citing analysts.
