Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal will launch the Global Innovation Index (GII) in New Delhi today. An official release said, this is for the first time that the GII is being launched in an emerging economy.
To promote vibrant innovation economies, the GII probes and quantifies the state of national innovation ecosystems, including their strengths and weaknesses. It provides for a critical tool for policy makers across the world.
The release said, innovation has become
central to the government's economic policy during the last few years which is now paying off with country's rising performance in the GII. India has jumped 24 places in the Global Innovation Index in four years, from 81st position in 2015, it achieved the 57th position in 2018.
The theme this year is Creating Healthy Lives - The Future of Medical Innovation, which aims to explore the role of medical innovation as it shapes the future of healthcare.
