The Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Narendra Singh Tomar has said that the private sector should join hands with the government to reduce the use of fertilizers and pesticides in farming. Mr. Tomar said this while virtually addressing the 11th Agrochemicals Conference organized by the Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) held in New Delhi.
Mr. Tomar highlighted that the country is in a very comfortable position in the production of food grains. He said, to compete at the global level, India also has to look towards other agriculturally developed countries and move ahead with them. He
said, India is agriculture-oriented and farming has a big contribution in the country's economy.
The Minister said that good work is going on in the country in the farming of pulses and oilseeds. He said, government is working with states on several schemes for the welfare of farmers . He emphasized that horticulture should also be promoted so that the country can become self-reliant in all respects.
The Union Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilizers and New and Renewable Energy Bhagwanth Khuba was also present in the conference.
