Union Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw has termed the allocation in the Union Budget for Railways as historic. Addressing media in New Delhi, Mr Vaishnaw said that the record allocation to the tune of two lakh 62 thousand and 200 crore rupees has been made in the budget for Railways. He added that this would give a major boost to Railways.
Mr Vaishnaw said that of the total budgetary allocation, over one lakh and 8 thousand crore rupees has been earmarked for safety-related activities. He informed that in 2014, the total budgetary allocation was only 35 thousand crore rupees. He said, the budget has laid emphasis on safety, comfort of passengers, capacity
building and improvement in Railways infrastructure.
On the employment issue, the Union Minister said that in the ten years of UPA rule, four lakh 11 thousand jobs were given while in the 10 years of Modi government, nearly five lakh jobs have been given.
Mr Vaishnaw who is also the Minister of Electronics and IT, said that electronics and mobile manufacturing has emerged as a big employment-generating segment in the last ten years. He added that Digital India has democratised the technology. He also thanked the Finance Minister to rationalise the customs duty which was a demand of the industry
