Retail inflation rose by 6.09 percent in June, mainly on account of higher prices of food items. The government data, released yesterday showed that food price inflation in June stood at 7.87 percent.
The Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation said, inflation figures are based on data collected from limited markets in view of the restrictions imposed on account of coronavirus
pandemic.
In April, CPI data were not released due to difficulty in data collection. In March, CPI inflation stood at 5.84 percent.
RBI considers the retail inflation data for its key rate reviews. However, RBI governor Shaktikanta Das on Saturday said, the focus of the central bank will remain on reviving growth and restoring financial stability.
