SEBI Study: Over 70% Of Intra-Day Equity Traders Face Losses In 2022-23 Fiscal

A study conducted by SEBI has found that more than 70 per cent of individual intra-day traders in the equity cash segment have incurred losses in the 2022-23 fiscal. The study also noted the surge of over 300 per cent in the number of individuals participating in intra-day trading in the equity cash segment in the financial year 2022-23 as compared to the financial year 2018-19.

As per the report, Around one in three individuals who trade in the equity cash



segment, trades intraday. The report said the average number of trades by loss-makers was higher than the profit-maker. SEBI observed that the share of young intra-day traders having an age of fewer than 30 years has grown to 48 per cent in 2022-23 as compared to 2018-19. The report highlighted the percentage of loss-makers among younger traders was 76 per cent in the financial year 2022-23 as compared to other age groups.
