A report in the Indian Express said that SpiceJet owner and co-founder Ajay Singh will hold around 40 per cent stake in NDTV. Is this true?
The morning started with a report in the Indian Express with a headline that said, "SpiceJet's Ajay Singh set to take control of NDTV". Citing sources, the report said that chairman and managing director of SpiceJet, Ajay Singh, will have "controlling stake in NDTV of around 40 per cent and the promoters Prannoy Roy and Radhika Roy will hold around 20 per cent in the company."
The report also quotes the source as saying, "Yes, the deal
has been finalised and Ajay Singh will take control of NDTV along with editorial rights," when asked if NDTV has been sold to Ajay Singh.
Within hours, The Economic Times put out a report headlined "NDTV up 5% as SpiceJet's Ajay Singh picks up majority stake" and reported that share of NDTV hit upper circuit of Rs 53.10 after the news of Ajay Singh buying majority stake in the channel broke. The report also said, "NDTV had hit 52-week high of Rs 92.20 on September 23, 2016, while 52-week low of Rs 33.50 on August 9, 2017," and that the stocks advanced 4.94 per cent to Rs 53.10 this morning.
