On Wall Street, key indexes fell on Tuesday, as the Ukraine-Russia crisis kept investors on edge after Russian President Vladimir Putin recognized two breakaway regions in the country and ordered troops to the area.
Indexes pared losses after the US President Joe Biden announced the first wave of sanctions against Russia, while saying he was hopeful diplomacy is still available. Biden added that
the United States had no intention of fighting Russia. He said the sanctions, among other things, target Russian banks and sovereign debt.
So, the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 483 points, or 1.4 percent, to close at 33,597. The S&P 500 slipped 44 points, or 1 percent, to end at 4,305. And the Nasdaq Composite dropped 167 points, to 13,382.
