A businessman, his wife and his 25-year-old son were shot dead in Civil Lines in Uttar Pradesh's Sitapur, 90 km away from Lucknow.
As per reports, 60-year-old Sunil Jaiswal and his son Ritik were shot from point blank range at 9:30 pm outside their house. In a CCTV footage, Sunil is seen struggling as the attackers try to snatch a bag from him. When Jaiswal's wife rushed outside after she heard gunshots, she too was shot dead.
While Jaiswal and his wife died on the spot, Ritik died of his injuries in a hospital shortly after.
Quoting the Additional Director General of Police Abhay Kumar Prasad, NDTV reported that it could
be an attempt to robbery. A similar robbery attempt was made on a different trader a week ago when he was shot dead in Allahabad, Prasad said.
According to a report in India Today , crime rates were up in several districts, including the capital Lucknow, after Yogi Adityanath was elected as the chief minister.
Last month, in a shocking accident, a man was shot dead and four members of his family were gangraped at gun-point.
CM Yogi on his part pinned the blame on the "jungle raj" that he has inherited from his predecessors, saying that it will take him some time to improve the law and order situation in the state.
