10 more Nayeemates arrested

The Telangana police on Thursday arrested 10 more persons, taking the number of arrestees to 77 so far. “An SIT was formed to probe the cases. During the process of investigation of cases against Nayeem gang, the SIT officers arrested 10 accused persons from Karimnagar and Nalgonda districts,” said a release from the DGP office. With the fresh arrests, the number of people in police custody has reached 77. 

Among the 10 arrested accused, nine were associates of Nayeem, while one, Mohd Ashraf, is his brother-in-law, the release said. Nayeemuddin alias Nayeem alias Balanna (45), wanted in



several cases, including the murder of an IPS officer, was killed in an exchange of fire with the police in Shadnagar town of Mahbubnagar district on August 8.

As many as 72 cases were registered against Nayeem in various police stations in Nalgonda, Mahbubnagar, Khammam, Karimnagar and Ranga Reddy districts. According to the police, the arrested accused were involved in seven cases of kidnap and armed extortions, forcible registration of land and plots in Bhongir town of Nalgonda. 

“Efforts are being continued to arrest the remaining gang members of Nayeem,” the police said.
