As many as 12 minors
escaped from a juvenile home at Nagole here on Wednesday night after allegedly
attacking the watchman and stealing the keys from him, police said on Thursday.
The incident occurred
at around midnight on Wednesday, when the inmates, aged between 15 and 17,
managed to break the main door lock of the juvenile home located at Khushinagar
in Bandlaguda of Nagole.
When the watchman Lakshmaia tried to stop them, they pushed him aside and ran away, police said adding they snatched the keys from him and escaped.Lakshmaiah, who sustained mild injuries, informed the home supervisor Sailu, who lodged a complaint with the LB Nagar police immediately. The police booked a case against the juveniles under Sections 224 and 324 of the IPC and formed special teams to nab them.

“We have some clues about their whereabouts. Our teams are on the job to rescue and bring
them back to the home and produce before the Juvenile Justice Board.”
Answering a query,
the DCP said “As the Juvenile Justice Board has directed the home to observe
the behavioural changes of the juveniles who are lodged at the home, it is the
responsibility of the home management to take care of the children. We will
apprise the facts to the JJ Board, ” he said
The boys were all lodged at the home for committing petty thefts. As there were no CCTVs in the home, the police were collecting the footage of CCTV cameras installed in the nearby areas to find out more clues about the escaped boys. Meanwhile, the child rights activists alleged that the juveniles could have been ill-treated at the home, due to which they escaped.
