The rape of a 13-year-old girl at Sarkaghat in Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi district came to light on Wednesday, after she complained of stomach pain. A trip to the Mandi zonal hospital revealed that she was pregnant.
Upon being questioned by her grandparents, the girl disclosed that she was raped allegedly by Simple, a resident of Barakut village, while returning home from school in January.
The
girl is being raised by her grandparents because her mother is dead, and her father decided to live separately after getting remarried.
Mandi police registered a case under Section 376 (punishment for rape) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 4 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act against Simple. Although police teams had set out in search of the accused, he was not arrested until the filing of this report.
