15-year-old girl raped by stepfather for 2 months in Bhopal

In a shocking incident, a 15-year-old girl was raped for over two months by her stepfather in Khajoori area of Madhya Pradesh's Bhopal. The accused began to rape the minor after the death of her mother.

According to the police, the victim, a class-6 drop out, used to live with her stepfather after her mother left her first husband in Lalitpur, Uttar Pradesh, around ten years ago. "The victim's mother died a few months back. It was then that the accused started to rape the minor," the police said.

The victim confided about the rape incidents to her younger sister. The matter came to light after the victim and her sister narrated her ordeal to their neighbour, who in turn informed the district child helpline that reported the incident to the police.

The district child line and the Khajoori Police rescued the victim from



her home on Monday and took her to a government hospital where her medical examination confirmed rape.

She told the police that she was raped by her stepfather for the first time the next day after her mother's death. The 35-year-old accused raped her every time he was drunk, she added.

A case has been registered against the stepfather under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code and other relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. He has also been arrested and will be produced in court on Wednesday.

The police are also reaching out to the relatives of the rape victim and her younger sister in Lalitpur to be able to find them a shelter home. "Their mother's first husband stays somewhere in Uttar Pradesh. Our job is to ensure safety of the two girl," SHO Khajoori Police Station said.
