Malkajgiri police arrested the secretary of an orphanage in the city for subjecting a 15-year-old orphan to sexual exploitation for the past one month.
A year ago, a man from Malkajgiri admitted the victim at the orphanage. A few days back, the victim made a phone call to her guardian and informed him that the secretary of the orphanage, Sunith Kumar, 55, had been sexually exploiting her and threatening her not to reveal about the assault to anyone.
After visiting the girl at the orphanage, her guardian lodged a complaint with Malkajgiri police on Monday against Sunith Kumar.Women police officials then spoke to the victim and, after recording her
statement, registered a rape case against Sunith Kumar under sections 376 (rape), 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and section 12 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Of fences (POCSO) Act, 2012 on Tues day. “For past one month, Sunith has been sexually exploiting the victim. He also threatened her not to tell anyone about the incident,“ Malkajgiri ACP G Sundeep said. Sunith started the orphanage in 1987 and currently 40 boys and girls are being rehabilitated in the facility.
Police sent the girl for medical examination and arrested Sunith Kumar on Tuesday. Sunith Kumar was produced before the court and sent to judicial remand.
