The Telangana police on Thursday said that so far 19 firearms, including 2 AK 47 assault rifles and a stengun, were seized from them.
While one AK 47 was recovered from the place where Nayeem was killed in an exchange of fire with the police five days ago on the Shadnagar outskirts, another AK 47 was recovered from a house close by. Police investigators are yet to ascertain from where the gang procured the two sophisticated weapons.
It is not sure whether the two rifles were among the weapons seized from left wing extremists or taken away by the latter from the police. Police higher-ups say
that they have stumbled upon evidence that a few police officers were in regular touch with the gangster through different modes of communication.
Action would be initiated against them after gathering more evidence, they said while declining to name the police officers connected to Nayeem. A total of 12 criminal cases were registered following the seizure of firearms, ammunition, documents and cash from Nayeem’s associates.
The head of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) and IGP Y Nagi Reddy appealed to the victims of Nayeem and his gang to complain at the nearest police station.
