Hyderabad: A 21-year-old woman died by suicide after her parents allegedly stopped her from watching television.
According to Jagathgirigutta police sub inspector G. Satyam, victim K. Devya hanged herself at her house in Papireddy Nagar on Tuesday night when her father and brother had gone for work.
Her father K. Swami Goud on Tuesday noticed that Devya had been watching television for the entire day. He scolded her and plugged off the cable connection, police sources disclosed.
Later she went to her bedroom and hanged herself through a ceiling fan. When Swami and his son Ravi Kumar returned home late at night they found her hanging. They immediately informed the police.
Devya had completed her graduation and worked
in a private firm but lost her job three months back. Since then she was upset and was constantly watched television due to which she fell ill, police said.
The police recovered a suicide note of Devya which stated "Dad, I will not watch TV or phone anymore... I am suffering from a prolonged illness that I could not disclose ... Now onwards there will be no problem".
To seek a better life, two years back Swami Goud had left his native village in Vanaparthi and came to the city along with his daughter and son. The family was staying in a rented house in Papireddy Nagar.
The police have registered a case of suspicious death under section 174 of the CrPC and are investigating the case.
