Hyderabad: The Maheshwaram police on Tuesday arrested a youngster on charges of raping a five-year-old girl at Porandla village of Maheshwaram on the city outskirts.
The arrested person Chandu (21), an Intermediate dropout, was working as a helper in a provisional store. The girl, whose parents were farmers, lived in his neighbourhood. The incident occurred on November 17 after her parents had gone to work and her grandmother went to attend a function in Rajendranagar. While her siblings were playing in front of the house, the victim was alone inside watching television.
According to the police, Chandu took advantage of the situation and entered the house and took the child to the bedroom where he raped her. “As the child knew him, she did not
sense any danger when he entered the house. He overpowered the girl and sexually exploited her,” the police said.
The incident came to light after her mother who was returning from work found Chandu rushing out of the house. “She found the other children playing outside and saw Chandu,” the police said, adding that she grew suspicious and enquired with the child who revealed what had happened.
Based on a complaint lodged late on Sunday evening, the Maheshwaram police booked a rape case under sections of he Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and arrested him. The child was sent for a medical examination. Chandu was produced before court and remanded in judicial custody.
