Police have seized Rs.2.6 crore cash during vehicle checks in Hyderabad city since Saturday and apprehended six persons, including a driver working for the family of Congress leader K Jana Reddy.
In the past one week, Rs.4.92 crore was seized in the Hyderabad police commissionerate limits. Task Force police along with local law and order police apprehended six persons at Panjagutta, Malakpet and Banjara Hills since Saturday.
On Saturday, West Zone Task Force team along with local police intercepted M Satwik Reddy, 32, a businessman from Somajiguda, and Sourav Goyal, 24, a businessman from Shivrampally near My Home Hill View Apartment in Somajiguda and seized Rs.26.19 lakh cash from their possession. “The duo could not provide any documents pertaining to the cash so we have seized the cash on suspicion that it would be utilised for the upcoming elections,” Hyderabad police commissioner Anjani Kumar said.
North Zone team of Task Force intercepted a Swift (TS 11 EN 5268) at Moosarambagh on Saturday and apprehended T Kasinath Reddy, 46, a private contractor from LB Nagar, and Bhukya Ravi, 37, a driver from LB Nagar, in possession of Rs.34.3 lakh cash. The duo disclosed that the cash was being taken to distribute it among voters of the Malkajgiri Lok Sabha
constituency.
On Sunday morning, West Zone Task Force team intercepted a car (AP 09 CT 0248) near Star Super Market on Road No. 14 of Banjara Hills and apprehended M Srinivas, 40, an employee of HES Infra Company in possession of Rs.1 crore cash. As he could not provide documents pertaining to the cash, it was seized, Banjara Hills inspector Kalinga Rao said.
Central Zone Task Force team on Sunday intercepted an Innova vehicle (AP 29 P 9999) near Basava Tarakam Cancer Hospital on Road No. 10, Banjara Hills, and apprehended its driver B Seenaiah, 41, a resident of MLA Colony in Banjara Hills, in possession of Rs.1 crore cash. “During questioning, he disclosed that he has been working for Congress leader Jana Reddy for the past two decades. Seenaiah also said that he was transporting the cash to the Nalgonda LS constituency on the instructions of Jana Reddy’s son, Jaiveer Reddy, to bribe voters,” Task Force additional DCP P Radha Kishan Rao said.
In addition to the Rs.2.6 crore cash seized on Saturday and Sunday, police had seized Rs.26 lakh at Panjagutta, Rs.47.75 lakh at Habsiguda in the OU PS limits, Rs.2 lakh in Golconda, Rs.3.65 lakh in SR Nagar, Rs.1.49 crore cash in Jubilee Hills and Rs.4 lakh in Tappachabutra in the past week.
