Hyderabad: A 29-year-old died by suicide hours after the body of her husband K. Manoj, a techie working in the US, was cremated here on Wednesday. Police said Manoj died of a heart attack on May 20 in the US; his body was brought to India and the final rites were performed on Wednesday.
Upset over the loss, his wife K. Sahithi died by suicide at her parental home in Amberpet in the city on Thursday.
The couple had been married for around 18 months, after which they flew to the US and were residing in Dallas. On May 2, Sahithi came to the city to visit her parents at DD Colony under Amberpet PS and in-laws residing at Vanasthalipuram. Manoj stayed back in the US.
After the cremation on Wednesday, Sahithi’s parents
took Sahiti to their home. On Thursday morning, they were preparing to go to Vanasthalipuram for rituals.
Her sister Sanjana went out of the room leaving Sahithi alone. A few minutes later when Sanjana returned she found the room locked from inside. Their parents Suresh and Uma knocked on the door but there was no response. Later they entered the room, found that Sahithi had attempted suicide and rushed her to a private hospital. Doctors declared her dead.
On a complaint from her father, Amberpet police registered a case and started an investigation. Police said no suicide note was found at the spot, but prima facie no foul play is suspected. Further investigation is underway, they said.
