Hyderabad: The Air Intelligence Unit of the Customs Department seized 26 gold bars weighing 2,992 gms from a passenger at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport early on Sunday. The gold was found to have been hidden in the toilet of the international arrival hall of the airport.
The passenger who had arrived from Sharjah, was carrying the gold bars without paying taxes. The value of the gold has been put at Rs
1,11,60,160.
“During early hours of Sunday, a male passenger had concealed the gold in the commode of a washroom near the Immigration area of the airport,” said Principal Commissioner of Customs, Hyderabad. On questioning, the traveller admitted that the packet containing 26 gold bars was handed to him by a person at Dubai with instructions to conceal them in the washroom.
