The Indore district court on Saturday awarded death sentence to a convict in the rape and murder case of a four-month-old girl in Rajwada. Reportedly, the local court completed final hearing and arguments in the case in just seven working days on Thursday.
The accused, Naveen Gadge, was arrested on April 21 for allegedly raping and killing a four-month-old infant. He was reportedly assaulted by people when he was being taken to a magisterial court earlier.
Amid outrage over the rape-murder of the infant, the State Bar Council of Madhya Pradesh had asked lawyers to not appear for the accused.
Gadge reportedly abducted the minor from the family, when they were sleeping under an
open space near the historic Rajwada Palace. CCTV footage shows him carrying the baby on his shoulder and taking her to the basement of a commercial building where he allegedly raped her. After committing the crime, he threw the child from a height which resulted in her death. The body of the infant was recovered from the basement.
The post-mortem of the girl, conducted at the state-run MY Hospital in Indore, suggested she might have been raped before being killed as her private parts bore injury marks.
Earlier, a policeman attached to Sarafa police station was also suspended for alleged dereliction of duty. He reportedly refused to register the complaint of the girl’s family when they approached him.
