Hyderabad: A 40-year-old woman ended her life reportedly after being humiliated by a woman financier over a delay in the repayment of a loan instalment. According to Musheerabad police, the victim, Zainab Begum, nurse at a private hospital, attempted suicide at her house in Bholakpur on Sunday night, and died while undergoing treatment in Gandhi Hospital early on Monday.
Zainab Begum, whose husband Mohammed Rafiq is an autorickshaw driver, had borrowed Rs 6.5 lakh from Rehana Begum to repair her house a year ago, and was not able to repay, police said.
Police, quoting from the complaint, said that a
financer, Rehana Begum, her parents Shaheda Begum and Mahamood and her brother Amjad went to Zainab Begum’s house and abused her for a delay in repaying the borrowed amount.
On November 1 this year, the two sides agreed to a deal capping the loan and interest at Rs 9.5 lakh, to be repaid at Rs 50,000 per month. The first instalment was delayed, leading to the lender and her family creating a scene at Zainab Begum’s house.
Police registered a case of abetment to suicide against Rehana Begum and her family members and took them into custody for questioning.
