Hyderabad: A leisure trip ended in tragedy when seven persons of a family from the city got drowned in Cherikonda Gowramma cheruvu in Aamangal mandal in Mahbubnagar district on Wednesday.The deceased were identified as Rubia Begum, Musan Begum, Munna Begum, all 18 years and Nusrat, 12, Basith, 38, Rahman, 18, Salman, 20, from Hashmabad, Ghazi-e-Millat colony and Al-Jubail Colony in Falaknuma area, according to Chandrayangutta police.
The mishap occurred around 11 am when a team of around 13 persons went to Cherikonda Gowramma cheruvu for swimming. The group went for a leisure trip on a summer vacation to spend a fun-filled day along with their friends and relatives to Mudvin, Mahbubnagar and nearby
areas.
According to the police, the victims got into water and started drowning. Noticing their relatives drown, others standing on the shore too entered the water in a vain bid to rescue them but they too met a watery grave. “They didn't know swimming but went deep into the river and drowned.
Unaware of the depth, they went inside and washed away,” the police said adding that Basith got married only six months ago. People from the neighbouring village rushed to the spot to help the family members. A pall of gloom descended on the family and they were wailing inconsolably. The police with the help of swimmers fished out seven bodies, including that of four women.
