Guntur:A 7-year-old girl was raped by a 28-yearold man at Tumrukota village under Rentachintala mandal in Guntur district on Tuesday night. The girl is said to be in a critical condition, and is being treated at a government hospital. The accused has been arrested.
According to Gurazala deputy superintendent of police, Srihari Babu, the incident took place between 8 pm and 10 pm.
The accused, identified as Miriyala Jayarao (28), a native of Tumrukota, and working as an auto driver, lured the girl with chicken pakoda. He took her to a secluded place and committed the crime. Jayaram was said to be in an inebriated condition, and the ordeal of the girl lasted for about two hours.
When the girl went missing, her parents, who are daily wage labourers, started looking for her.
Later, they heard her screams on the outskirts of the village. Before they could rush to the spot, Jayarao had
fled.
The parents rushed the girl to Dachepalli government hospital and lodged a complaint with the police. The victim was then shifted to Guntur for better treatment as she lost a lot of blood. In the meantime, six teams were formed to trace Jayarao. He was arrested at Piduguralla on Wednesday along with his relative Bhulakshmi, who gave him shelter.
Condemning the incident, AP chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu announced Rs.5 lakh compensation for the victim’s family.
As the news of the incident spread, villagers at Paluvai junction blocked the Guntur-Macherla road, and demanded justice for the girl. They also burnt tyres on the roads while raising slogans.
