77-year-old woman raped in Hyderabad

A 22-year-old man allegedly attacked and raped a 77-year-old woman at her residence in Mailardevpally on Monday.

According to the police, P Vamshi, a resident of Babul Reddy Nagar and a daily wage labourer, entered the woman’s house around 1 pm when she was alone. He allegedly assaulted her sexually, police said.

Mailardevpally Inspector P Jagadeeshwar said the victim was injured in the head and neighbours shifted her to hospital.



“The woman was staying alone and Vamshi took advantage of this,” he said. He also tried to kill her by hitting her on the head, but as she sounded the alarm. He fled before the neighbours could arrive.

The woman was shifted to a local private hospital where her condition is said to be out of danger. Police, who booked a case based on the victim’s complaint, launched a manhunt for Vamshi. They are also examining CCTV footage.
